Dear Lakers Youth Lacrosse Parent/Guardian:

The following information is intended to communicate the goals and objectives of Lakers Youth Lacrosse and offer some insight into what we expect from you in supporting the program, praising your son/daughter and honoring the game of Lacrosse.

Our boys’ U9, U11, U13, U15 and girls’ 3/4 grade, 5/6 grade and 7/8 grade teams will be competing in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League(s). Lakers Youth Lacrosse supports their philosophy which states,

“There are no standings kept, no league championship or playoffs. We play all players as equally as possible with the goal of teaching the sport and providing a fun experience for all involved. We police ourselves in the effort to provide an outlet for kids that has not been swept up in the pressure filled, win-at-all-cost mania that is too present in today's youth sports.”

The Coaches have been certified by the ‘Positive Coaching Alliance’ which will instill three primary objectives into their coaching styles: redefining ‘winner’; filling the emotional tank; and honoring the game of lacrosse.

The keys to the program’s success is our ability to instill the principles of ROOTS (see below), the support you give to the Coaches and encouraging your child to honor the game:

R ules – We don’t bend the rules to win
O pponents – A worthy opponent is a gift that forces us to play to our highest potential
O fficials – We treat officials with respect even when we disagree
T eammates – We never do anything that would embarrass our team on or off the field
S elf – We live up to our own standards regardless of what others do

We’re asking you to review the following “parental pact” that will let you know what we’re asking you to do in helping the success of the program. It is critical that we get your support throughout the year and especially on game day to make sure we have the home field advantage while projecting a positive impression to the players, our opponents, the coaches, the officials and supporters of our opponents.

Please take a moment to read the following, sign and hand to your players’ coach.

Thank you for supporting your son/daughter and the objectives of your/our program.

Respectfully,

LAKERS YOUTH LACROSSE

PARENTAL PACT

I _____________________________________ agree to support the goals and objectives of the Lakers Youth Lacrosse program who will provide my child with a rewarding and fun experience playing Lacrosse.

I will help support the spirit of the program in:

Redefining “Winner”
  • Tell my child that it’s ok to make a mistake
  • Let them know I appreciate it when he/she tries hard even if unsuccessful
  • Recognize that mastery is hard work. I will let the Coaches critique my child’s play and let them know I’m proud of them regardless of the outcome

Filling the Emotional Tank
  • Encourage my child regardless of what happens in the game
  • Try not to give my child a lot of advice
  • Use the ‘three pluses and a wish” technique of citing three good things they did during the game and wish they would ____ in the future

Honoring the Game
  • Let my child know that I want them to Honor the Game
  • Be a good role model. I too, will Honor the Game when I attend games. I will cheer both teams when good plays are made. If, in my opinion, an officiating mistake is made, I will be silent! I will use this as an opportunity to think about how difficult it is to officiate a game perfectly
  • I will encourage other parents to Honor the Game

I understand there will be a ‘zero tolerance’ for arguing with the officials, coaches, other parents, etc. I accept that if I violate the ‘zero tolerance’ policy I may be asked to leave the premises. Further, I understand my son/daughter and the other players have made the commitment to try their best and to have fun. I will not take any action that does not respect the spirit of their commitment.

Signed,
